How can I be clarity? 🤔 ✨💎

Hi Friends-

As you may have noticed, I’ve been on a deep journey of undoing these past many months— preparing to step back into the world and to be in community with you, in new ways.

In the process, I have spent a lot of time alone, and I have spent a lot of time searching for clarity about my next steps — or my next incarnation, if you will.

And after all this time, and all this travel, and all this sitting in meditation, and all this soul-searching, I have emerged with two answers, which I will share with you.

*

The first is:

You are not going to figure it out alone.

Which is, of course, a very amusing answer after one has invested months of time and energy and resources in order to spend time alone trying to figure out “the answer.”

And it’s not really an answer at all — more of a reminder, let’s say.

But I don’t think it’s a reminder for me alone. It is for me because it has become very clear that I — tiny humanoid of limited capacities — am most definitely not going to figure this out alone. (And, really, have I ever? If I thought so in the past, it was probably just hubris.)

I think it's a reminder that could be useful to many of us. A reminder that these myths of the lone creative genius, the lone hero, the lone whatever... are largely manufactured. That genius is more of a scenius. That intelligence and ingenuity are much more communal than we imagine.

"You are not going to figure this out alone" is a reminder of the power of taking action and solving problems and supporting each other in community.

As is apparent to anyone who reads the news, to anyone who has eyes, to anyone who has ears, there is a whole helluvah lot that needs figuring out right now. And we are not going to figure it out alone.

We’ve tried the individualistic, every-person-for-themselves model and this is where it got us. To this exact polarized, chaotic, unstable, burnt out, over-extracted moment.

To put this in more positive terms, I believe we are entering into a “bridge moment,” where we are moving from one cultural paradigm to another cultural paradigm. We are moving away from an urgent, individualistic, extractive paradigm into something new.

What is the new paradigm? I cannot say — that is for us, as a collective, to decide. My personal vision is of a paradigm that is more communal, that is more generative, that is more loving, that is more balanced, that is inclusive of all — and by "all" I mean all of our human and our more-than-human kin — the animals, the plants, the minerals.

The second “answer” I received was about clarity.

To refresh on context, part of the reason for my long pause was because I was experiencing a deep sense of unknowing, a deep lack of clarity. Never in my adult life have I felt so unclear about what to do next.

Up until recently, I had been blessed to move through life with one big vision after another. I always had a project that was my North Star, and when I didn’t, the intervals between them were relatively brief.

In reaction to this sudden loss of vision, my thought was that I needed to find clarity.

The answer that I received was not an answer but a question: What if you ARE clarity?

For me, this question invites a deep shift in perspective: From looking outside of myself for clarity, from seeing clarity as something that I have to go somewhere else to “find”, or something that I wait passively to “receive”, to looking within myself for clarity.

To imagine how I might reach down into the very root of myself and embody clarity rather than waiting for it to come from somewhere else. Rather than waiting for it to be handed to me.

This is another paradigm shift that I think is being asked not just of me but of the collective.

To stop looking outside of ourselves for guidance or direction, and to instead look deep within ourselves — to remember all of the internal resources, the power, the gifts that we already possess and to learn how to embody those things in the world.

So rather than looking outside of myself for clarity or waiting for clarity to arrive, I’m asking:

How can I embody clarity?

How can I show up with clarity?

How can I be clarity?

Right now, in this moment?

In response to these reminders, I am re-dedicating myself to holding space for community, for creativity, and for consciousness.

As part of that process, new offerings are coming in for me to share…

The first is that I am re-opening KILN, a sacred container for reconnecting to your creative self.

As of today, registration is open for KILN: Chrysalis Edition, an 8-week journey into cultivating a new relationship with yourself and your creativity, which will run from June 17 - August 19, 2025.

This special edition of KILN will be dedicated to exploring the miraculous (and deeply creative) space of the liminal, of not knowing, of being not quite this and not quite that.

So many of us are on the cusp right now: Feeling the tug of new callings, new careers, new incarnations, new ways of creating and connecting. And it’s exciting but it’s also uncomfortable — this not knowing.

That’s why I’m dedicating this edition of KILN to the chrysalis — to honor and hold space for the transformative power of those awkward, liminal, in-between moments that we all must navigate.

The caterpillar could not become a butterfly without the chrysalis. It needs that magical space of support, surrender, exploration, and reinvention. The retreat is an essential part of the transformation.

Within the cocoon of KILN, the tools that I am offering to support you include:

  • Alchemy coaching, where I share guidance around creativity, intuition, and reinvention based on both my research and my personal experience

  • Guided self reflection, where I invite you to become a “spiritual detective,” interrogating your creative process and your consciousness for insights that will spark greater ease and flow

  • Co-creation sessions, where I share tips, ideas, and tools for relating to your creativity in new ways, as well as hold space for you to be in deep communion with your creative self

  • Optional community conversations, where we come together to share our challenges, create gentle accountability, and gather the strength & encouragement we need to keep showing up

I led the first iteration of KILN last summer, and it was deeply impactful and moving journey for all of us.

I honestly can’t wait to see what unfolds in this new container.

So...

If you’re feeling the call to reconnect with your creative self or a specific creative project…

If you’re feeling the tug of a new calling, a new career, or a new incarnation that wants to emerge…

If you’re feeling the urge to relate to yourself, or your intuition, or your creative practice in a new way…

then I hope you’ll consider joining for this brand-new edition of KILN.

Despite what I may have said in the past, transformation doesn’t have to be hard — especially when we all come together to support each other in the process. ✨

A heady but worthwhile convo between Bayo Akomolafe and Sophie Strand. Some topics covered: The serious can only be approached playfully, we only survive insofar as we “mispronounce” ourselves, and eating sh*t as a way to evolve.

Caroline Myss on self-empowerment vs self-liberation. A snippet: “To hell with being humiliated, the goal is to be humble. To think I cannot afford to give my power away to the need for approval.”

I can’t wait to see the new Hilma af Klint exhibit What Stands Behind the Flowers at MoMA. Fun fact: “From 1856 until the 1960s, schoolchildren in Sweden had to pass annual botanical examinations quite literally in the field.”

Shout out to the wonderful artist Yukai Du, who did the illustrations for KILN and all of my other courses. She’s an incredible talent and I highly recommend her!

I am currently enjoying the deliriously beautiful prose of Orbital by Samantha Harvey.

A best practice: “I will plant beautiful things in my mind.”

Artwork by Camilla Garofano. Hi Friends- How is your brain today? Mine has been a little on the fritz all week and not functioning like it “normally” does for the better part of a year. It’s been interesting to learn how to operate in a new way amidst this fog. So far I find that my executive functioning is less sharp, but my ability to do creative tasks is, in many ways, much freer. I’ve always thought high executive function was a double-edged sword: Yes, it can help you plan and execute...

Hi Friends- After a long period of retreat and introspection, I am re-animating! Today, I was picturing myself as both the mad scientist hunched over their creation and the reconstituted body being awakened to new life. It me! 🧟 After spending an unholy amount of time hanging out with me, myself, and I... I am truly enlivened by the prospect of anchoring back into hosting gatherings, holding community, and coming back into my energy work practice. Over the next few newsletters, I’ll be...

Artwork by Jason Hateart. Hi Friends- I am currently: feeling immense gratitude for the bounty of blessings in my life — a home, a wonderful community, so much love, my dog guru Pablo, a warm hearth, running water, sunshine, and so much more... ramping up to share some new offerings with you and looking forward to diving back into my work after an extended period of deep undoing and integration reading a book that puts forth a clear-eyed (and fairly disturbing) vision of how climate change...
